In 1996, when I was finishing my Ph.D. -thesis Filosofie en economie in de vroege Middeleeuwen (750-1250) [Philosophy and Economics in the early Middle Ages (750-1250)]I gradually had become aware that in these 5 ages the science of ‘political economics’ had not yet existed but that economics was something else.

But what it was – agronomy, politics, palace order, house management – was not clear and I understood it as a bit of everything. Here was definitely something wrong in the State of Denmark. Nevertheless I left it at that. I would have given to much trouble to change the set-up of my book. The problem was that the history of original economics not yet had been written, although it was known that in Antiquity a science of economics had existed.
From then on I have been trying to recuperate the history of original economics. It has been the second practical science next to ethics and politics for a very long time but nowadays seems to be completely forgotten. The society changed its agricultural base into an industrial fundament, which made original economics, based on principles of self-sufficiency as it was, irrelevant. That is why in the nineteenth century political economics could slide before original economics and even could make original economics disappear .
After my retirement in 2009 I intensified this effort and started to retranslate and at the same time summarize the vital books of original economics in (my) English, because in the existing translations many words had been wrongly understood and mistranslated. These summaries still badly need a native speaker.
As a by-product I have run into quite some essays on subjects which nowadays belong to political economics but before the sixteenth century were discussed within politics: money and its function; justice and the origin, limit and distribution of wealth & the main state expenditure on war or in times of peace and the possibilities to finance them. Some of them I have translated in Dutch.
I now have put my retranslation of the most important books of original economics and my translation of the essays of early political economics on this website, free available for everybody
The reader will see that the wisdom stored in original economics is tremendous.
